“We Came Home”

Synopsis :

Born and raised in Los Angeles to a loving family that had never forgotten its Afghan roots, Ariana’s life is turned upside down after 9/11. When her parents move back to Kabul to help with reconstruction, Delawari spends a decade documenting their transition and her own awakening, through music, to her Afghan heritage. Delawari beautifully weaves together decades of her family story while recording her album, Lion of Panjshir, (released by David Lynch) with master musicians in post 9/11 Afghanistan. She welcomes the audience to “meet” many average Afghans – a far cry from the stereotypes most often seen in the media. The person who stands out above all and proffers hope against all odds is her father, Noor Delawari, the current Governor of Afghanistan’s Central Bank. He inspires with his profound belief in his country.

The film won the grand jury prize at Sao Paulo International Film Festival, the Jury prize at Mexico International Film Festival, the Jury Award at Rajasthan International Film Festival, the Echoes of Earth Award at Flickers : Rhode Island International Film Festival, and screened at many festivals around the world including AFI FEST, AFI DOCS, Al Jazeera Documentary Film Festival, The United Nations Film Festival, The International Film Festival of India, and many others. The film was just acquired for worldwide distribution.
